Biography

Irakli Giviashvili is founder and CEO of Sustainability Science Academy.

Irakli Giviashvili in 2011 obtained PhD degree in law at the Nottingham Trent University. The topic of his doctoral thesis is on environmental rights. In 2002 he obtained LLM degree at the University of Heidelberg. In 1998 he graduated Tbilisi State University with specialization in international law. 

Irakli Giviashvili has 24 years of experience in diplomatic service of Georgia. From 2017 to 2022 Irakli Giviashvili was Ambassador of Georgia to the Council of Europe. From 27 November 2019 to 15 May 2020 he was President of the Committee of Ministers (CM) of the Council of Europe. From April 2019 to October 2019 he was President of the Committee on Ministers’ Human Rights Meetings (CMDH). From 2014 to 2017 Irakli Giviashvili was Ambassador at Large on Human Rights and was responsible for preparation of quarterly reports in the English language on human rights situation in the occupied territories of Georgia. From 2007 to 2010 he was Director of International Law Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.
